Good afternoon everyone, the topic of my speech today is <Protecting our public property>. First, I would like to begin with a story: It is a story of a primary school in our Jilin Province,called Hunjiang primary school. That school is not so big with only 80 desks. However, what makes us surprised(吃惊的) is that those 80 desks are all made in the year 1949, the year when our new China is founded(成立). More than 60 years has passed(过去了), those 80 desks are still in use with their perfect condition(完好无损地在使用中). Because very student in the Hunjiang primary school has a good morality of protecting public property. I admire（敬佩） their behaviors（行为）and moralities（道德）. Even if（尽管）they are from poor area（贫困地区）, they do have such a good morality. But what about ourselves（但是我们自己呢）? As a junior high student（初中生）, what have we done to our public property? I don't know whether（是否）you have seen the footprints on the wall, the scrawls(涂鸦) on the desks, the litters on the floor, the broken windows in our classroom, the working（正在工作的）lamps(灯) and the running fans（正运转的风扇）in the classroom（教室）with no one in it … Do you know? No matter（不管怎样）you did those things on purpose（故意）or by accident（出于意外）, those things have damaged（破坏）our public properties and brought unnecessary troubles（麻烦）to other classmates. Have you ever thought of the inconveniences（不便）brought（带来）by the broken windows , broken fans and broken desks？

Every time I saw those uncivilized behaviors , I would feel unhappy. It is true that what they are lacking of is morality,they don't know what is morality and discipline(纪律). They don't know that they are the owner of those public properties. They don't know that it is their duty to protect those public properties. Here I appealing to(呼吁) you to protect our public properties and not to damage(毁坏) them any more. Don't throw litter around and spit everywhere, if you don't want to be criticized(批评)by others. Morality is very important to a people. The quality（质量）of students' morality reflects the mental state(精神状态)of a school and has a strong influence(强烈影响) in the development（发展）of school. What a people says and does show his personal quality,(个人素质) and further（进一步）influence quality of the whole group(集体). Whether a student cherish public property shows the school spirit of his school. Broadly(广义上讲), it reflects the national quality (国民素质)of his country.

Start from me ! Take care of the desk and chair! Be gently(轻轻地)when opening the windows and doors! Protect the flowers and trees! Protect the public property! Save water and electricity (节水节电)! Keep the environment clean(保持环境卫生)! Start from little things!(从小事开始) In fact(其实)，protecting public property is not a hard thing, so long as（只要）we try our best (尽力)to adjust our attitude(调整态度) and improve (提高)our morality to be the protecters of our public environment rather than the destroyers.

I believe, our school will be more beautiful, if we can work together（一起努力） to improve our morality and protect our public property!
